Sponsor Marjoram
It took a month to catch Marjoram, but boy was he worth it!
Marjoram was part of a large group of over 20 pigeons that had been abandoned on a street corner. Our sanctuary was out constantly trying to round them all up as they had flown a bunch of different directions around the town. The majority of them had stayed on the street corner and we were able to catch a ton of them all at once, but Marjoram was scared.
Marjoram was among the most nervous of the pigeons. He didn’t trust people and didn’t know what to do in this unfamiliar environment. On top of that, he was super smart and outsmarted half a dozen traps or so. But he was tired. He didn’t want to be in the wild – it was hard to find food, water, and predators were everywhere. It had been a month and Marjoram started trying to land on our founder’s car. He was ready to come home. Alas, he was still too scared to let her get within 20 feet of him but he took the leap and despite knowing it was a trap, decided to enter it.
The amazing thing is that Marjoram once he saw all of his friends at the sanctuary understood. We were there to help. Despite once being shy, he now makes it a point to run up to the edge of his aviary every time he sees our founder just to say “hi” and will even eat out of her hand. Just goes to show the forgiving nature of animals despite all that humans had done to him. Marjoram needs a sponsor.
