About DOAC - why pigeons are important to you and us

See why we are passionate about helping abandoned pigeons in need!

Our Mission

Dreaming of a Chance’s mission is to rescue abandoned domestic pigeons from around the Hudson Valley and NYC and provide them with a forever home. We also strive to educate the public about proper bird care, the effects of abandonment on the environment, as well as how to spot and help abandoned domestic birds.

About The Farm

Dreaming of a Chance is located on a gorgeous 1840’s farm. After being abandoned for many years, my family and I did our best to restore this historic place to its former glory. Dreaming of a Chance shares the land with our pre-existing alpaca farm, Lilymoore Farm. Between DOAC & Lilymoore, we house 14 different species of animals and over 160 creatures who call our land home.

About Our Rescue Birds

Each one of our rescues is as unique of a being as you or I, and we have quite the range of rescue cases. Currently, we house chickens, ducks, quails, one turkey, and pigeons at our bird sanctuary, with our specialty being pigeons. The vast majority of our rescues were abandonment cases. However, we do have rescues from a variety of different situations and backgrounds.

Why We Started

Dreaming of a Chance started at the beginning of the COVID-19 in March of 2020 when our then-18-year-old founder saw an upsurge in animal rescue cases during the pandemic. Having wanted to start a sanctuary for quite a while and seeing this drastic increase in animals needing rescuing – in particular poultry – she decided there was no time better than the present to make her dream a reality and start helping so many animals in need.
