You won’t believe this but someone dumped Vince and his friend Andy at our sanctuary’s gate!
Roosters are super misunderstood and mistreated animals. They are such amazing birds and fear in them is so often mistaken for aggression. Most people find out they have a rooster (and are often shocked despite it being a 50:50 split between males and females when you hatch eggs or buy straight run birds). When this happens, people scramble to get rid of the roosters for one reason or another and it is super hard to find them homes because so many are in need.
This case was odd though because generally people abandon young roosters when they realize they are male but to the best of our knowledge, Vince and Andy were probably at 5 years old when they were dumped at our gate.
I can only imagine how scary it was for them to have their whole life uprooted and be thrown in a cage at the end of our driveway. Not to mention how dangerous it is for our birds to potentially be exposed to whatever pathogens Vince and Andy could have been exposed to (especially since it was during the Avian Influenza outbreak in our county). We had to scramble to make space for them since we were at capacity for roosters but are so glad we could so that Vince and Andy could live a happy and wholesome rest of their lives here.
Vince has shown us how cool his is shouting out his little but mighty bantam crows! He is convinced (like many little birds) that he is a tough, giant and is confident in his every move. Vince could use a bestie to sponsor him and help him life a great life.

When you sponsor an animal, you are supporting their long term care through monthly givings. This covers the cost of their food, housing, and bedding as well as the average cost of vet bills . Becoming a sponsor to an animal means that our sanctuary has the security in mind that we can cover the current expenses of our residents and aids in our decision making for if we can take in a new intake by having financial security for our existing residents.
The first month you sponsor an animal and receive through email:
* A certificate of sponsorship
* An adorable photo of your feathered friend
Through mail (for donors covering a week or month of care):
*A cute card with your sponsored animal on it
For All Sponsorship Levels:
Quarterly you will receive updates on your friend (March, June, September, and December). Please note that you will only receive these updates if you are currently sponsoring the animal.
When you sponsor the animal, please write a note to us in the additional info section that includes the name of the person you are gifting the sponsorship program to, their address, and any note you want to provide to them.
Please Note:
* Your donation may be distributed to help multiple animals at the sanctuary.
* Animals may be sponsored by more than 1 person.
* This donation does not give you any rights to the animal being sponsored or enable you to make decisions about their care. Sponsoring is not adopting the animal.
* All parts of the sponsorship programs may take up to a week to receive
* We use a newsletter software for updates. Please check your spam initially if you do not receive an email from us by the end of the quarter while sponsoring an animal. This also signs you up for our normal newsletter.
*If you cancel within a week of sponsoring, your donation counts as a normal donation as this is a recurring donation program.
*You must be an active sponsor to receive update emails on a quarterly basis (March, June, September, and December). Generally, emails go out on the last day of the month.
